December ‘Heads up’
DDS would like to advise you all that from 1st December, Fentanyl patches 12mcg, 25mcg, 50mcg, 75mcg and 100mcg are remaining as a Category C but the reimbursement is changing from Durogesic to Mesolar! This will result in a reduction of reimbursement of around 40%
Additions to Part 2
12 items have been added to Part 2 of the November Drug Tariff. Ones which I think you may find of interest:
- Alprostadil powder and solvent for solution for injection cartridges with device (ALL)
- Maxijul Super Soluble powder 132g sachets
- Viridal Duo Starter Pack powder and solvent for solution for injection cartridges with device (ALL)
Generally, items which fall into Part 2 of the Drug Tariff have no Wholesaler discount, you are potentially dispensing at a loss. You may consider sending the prescription away to a local Pharmacy to be dispensed.
Additions to Part 8a
8 items have been added to Part 8a of the November Drug Tariff, ones which I think you will find of interest are:
- Dexamethasone 0.1% / Neomycin 0.5% / Acetic acid (glacial) 2% ear spray has been added to Part 8a of the November Drug Tariff. This is the generic version of Otomize which has been discontinued. The Dexamethasone 0.1%/Neomycin 0.5% has gone into the Drug Tariff as a category C with the reimbursement based on Ennogem Healthcare International Ltd with a reimbursement price of £8.58. You can purchase this product for £3.27 which is weirdly the same price at Otomize!!
- Progesterone micronised 200mg capsules have gone into the November Drug Tariff with the reimbursement price based on Gepretix at £7.98.
- Rosuvastatin capsules 5mg, 10mg, 20mg and 40mg has been added back into the November Drug Tariff as a Category C, based on Sun Pharma Ltd.
Additions to Part 16
List of medicines covered by the HRT PPC HRT hormones
- Estradot Conti- see strengths below have both been added to the list of items which are covered by the HRT PPC.
(Estradiol 30micrograms/24hours / Norethisterone 95micrograms/ 24hours transdermal patches & Estradiol 40micrograms/24hours / Norethisterone 130micrograms/ 24hours transdermal patches)
Deletions to Part 8a
12 Items have been deleted from the November Drug Tariff, ones which I think you may find of interest are:
- Alginate raft-forming oral suspension sugar free, 300ml and 600mg – more commonly known as Gaviscon Original Aniseed Relief have both been removed from the November Drug Tariff. 150ml and 500ml pack size have remained in the Drug Tariff.
- Coal tar extract 2% shampoo 125ml and 250ml have both been removed from the Drug Tariff. This is more commonly known as Neutrogena T/Gel Therapeutic shampoo. Both pack sizes were discontinued in May 25.
- Exenatide 5micrograms/0.02ml solution for injection 1.2ml pre-filled disposable devices, more commonly known as Byetta has been removed from the November Drug Tariff. This product was discontinued in April 2024.
As a reminder Items which have been removed from the Drug Tariff part 8A can still be prescribed and dispensed but you will need to endorse the prescription with manufacturer, pack size and price paid.
Other Changes to Part 8a
7 items are listed in ‘Other changes’, ones which I think you may find of interest are:
- Alogliptin 12.5mg / Metformin 1g tablets has remained as a Category C but the reimbursement price is now based on Takeda.
- Alogliptin 12.5mg, 25mg and 6.25mg have again remained as a Category C but the reimbursement price is now based on Takeda.
- Macrogol compound oral powder sachets NPF sugar free, pack size 20 has remained as a Category C but Cosmocol Orange has been removed as the brand who the reimbursement price is taken! This is one to watch!
