Additions to Part 2

19 items have been added to Part 2 of the November Drug Tariff, ones which I think you may find of interest are listed below:

  • Alpro Organic Soya Original milk
  • Alpro Organic Soya Wholebean Unsweetened milk
  • Arachis oil 130ml enema

Items which fall into part 2 generally have no wholesaler discount and so you would be dispensing at a loss.  Therefore, these are items which you may consider sending the prescription to a local pharmacy.

 Additions to Part 8a

13 items have been added to Part 8a of the November Drug Tariff. Ones that I think you may find of interest are:

Amoxicillin 500mg/5ml oral suspension sugar free, 100ml has gone into the November Drug Tariff as a category C item with the reimbursement of £3.09 based on Brown & Burk UK ltd.

Estradiol 1.53mg/dose transdermal spray, pack of 168 has gone into the November Drug Tariff based on the list price of Lenzetto. This item was already in the Drug Tariff but as a pack size of 56. Now both pack sizes are listed but the 168-pack size has special container rules of 56.

Quetiapine 600mg modified-release tablets have gone into the November Drug Tariff as a category C item with the reimbursement based on Biquelle XL. Biquelle is the only Quetiapine 600mg XL currently available.

Venlafaxine 37.5mg/5ml oral solution sugar free + Venlafaxine 75mg/5ml oral solution sugar free have both gone into part 8a of the November Drug tariff as a Category C item with the reimbursement based on Rosemount Pharmaceuticals Ltd. These were both previously listed in part 8b (payments for specials) but have been granted a licence and so are now presenting in part 8a.

Previously if any of the items above had been prescribed generically, you would have had to endorse the brand, manufacturer, pack size and price paid in the left-hand column. As the items are now in the Drug Tariff, no endorsement is required.

Additions to Part 8b

4 items have been added to part 8b of the November Drug Tariff, these are listed below:

  • Atorvastatin 10mg/5ml oral suspension
  • Chloral hydrate 200mg/5ml oral solution
  • Furosemide 5mg/5ml oral solution
  • Furosemide 5mg/5ml oral suspension
  •

Once an item is listed in Part 8b of the Drug Tariff, the only endorsement required on the prescription is the XP£20.

Deletions to Part 8A

Only 3 items have been deleted from the November Drug Tariff and these are:

Ammonium bicarbonate powder,  this was discontinued in June 2015.

Hypromellose 0.5% eye drops, more commonly known as Isopto plain eye drops has been deleted from the November Drug Tariff, this was discontinued in September 2021.

Urea 10% lotion, more commonly known as Eucerin lotion has been removed from the November Drug Tariff, this was discontinued in July 2021.

Items which have been removed from the Drug Tariff can still be prescribed and dispensed but you will need to endorse the prescription with manufacturer, pack size and price paid.

Other Changes to Part 8a

8 items are listed in ‘Other Changes, the ones that I think you would find of interest are listed below:

Hydroxyzine 10mg tablets have moved from a Category C with the reimbursement price based on Zentiva Pharma UK Ltd to a Category A and the reimbursement price has gone up slightly.

Phytomenadione 10mg/1ml solution for injection ampoules has remained as a Category C but the reimbursement is now based on Cheplapharm Arzneimittel GmbH. Previously it was based on Konakion. Supplies of either Konakion or the generic are sporadic.

Trientine dihydrochloride 300mg capsules are still listed as a category C item but the reimbursement is now based on Cufence where previously it was based on Univar Solutions B.V. This is a really expensive product and the reimbursement price has dropped by approximately £15.00. Please ensure if you are dispensing this product, that the Drug Tariff is paying out accordingly.

Part VIIIC Additions

No further additions have been added to part VIIIC for November 2021.
