FAQ

Hi Amanda,

I think I may have asked you this before but can I check again please.

Daktacort cream– if I’m right, the 30g packs have been discontinued for a while now but if found recently that we’re able to get 15g. There are no issues with us giving this out is there?

All the Daktacort/daktarin are confusing me because some are discontinued but different pack sizes are available or they’re just out of stock but it’s making me question if their discontinued or not…..headache

HI there,

I think you may have asked before but actually my answer will have changed from last time.

So Daktacort ointment and cream (30g) have both been discontinued – and the 30g (for both) have now been removed from the Drug Tariff (that’s what has changed since you asked last).

You can still procure the 15g of Daktacort cream which is still in the Drug Tariff- so ok to prescribe 15g or 30g as they will multiply the cost by 2.

Good afternoon, Amanda, I hope you’re well on this beautiful first day of Spring 🙂

I did an online course yesterday about the DM+D, and just want to query something which came up.

The Dr presenting said that Uniroid (not sure if he meant ointment /suppositories) attracts an administration fee, making it a PA

I am aware that items containing an anaesthesia are counted as a PA, but what I hadn’t realised is that we shouldn’t charge the patient (because they are taking it away and not having it administered in the surgery)

In all honesty I didn’t know this particular item contains anaesthesia, but what concerns me more is that I had no idea we shouldn’t be charging the patient.

Please can you clarify?

Hi, hope you are well?

So Uniroid and Proctosedyl (ointment and Suppositories) are both classed as PA as they contain Cinchocaine which is an anaesthetic.

Scheriproct is the same as it also contains an anaesthetic.

So, the GP is correct, as it’s classed as PA – no levy is due.

However, my stance on it is that if you start saying to the team that this ‘bottom cream’ is free and this one is chargeable such as Anusol (which is not PA) I think you will have Wrong Group Movements all over the place.

And how do you explain to the non – dispensing patient, taking the prescription to pharmacy that a levy is due from them but not from a dispensing patient.

Its messy, but the answer is – your GP is correct, but it’s how do you manage it?

Hi Amanda

Hope you’re well……a quick question for you please – see below:

“Can you clarify with Amanda –  if we order Tetanus through ImmForm, should these be on a PA script? Currently no prescription is issued.

Hi, I am very well thanks – hope all is good with you?

The Tetanus through ImmForm is Tetanus which the practice hasn’t paid for so in which case, no prescription is raised.

If you buy Tetanus (perhaps for travel) then you would raise a prescription for it.
