FAQ
Morning Amanda
Hope you are well 🙂
I just wanted to ask something please.
Am I correct that dispensing patients can’t switch between us and another pharmacy?
We have a patient whose Repeat Dispensing go to a pharmacy near where he works.
He has then been given a printed script to bring to us and had 3 acute items sent through to us.
I was always under the impression you can’t chop and change between dispensing drs and a pharmacy?
Hi there,
All good here, hope you are too?
There is no ‘law’ to say that patients can’t flit between Dispensary and Pharmacy and at the end of the day .. its patient choice.
However, its annoying when they do flit around and a lot of practices make it practice policy, that if the patient decides to take the prescription away, then they must do it for all scripts.
But there is no law – sorry ☹
Hi Amanda
Can you please advise us in regards to the Mometasone advice in the October newsletter?Â
I’ve just checked the price for Elocon cream on AAH and it’s more then what we will get from the price on the drug tariff? Do we need to endorse what we are actually paying for the item? And in turn, will we get paid what we endorse?Â
Hi there,
So the ointment has been moved back up to category C and you are now paid for Elocon.
Cream has stayed at the moment  as a Cat M.
Both cream and ointment has been over tariff price for years now so I’m hoping NHSBSA will move the cream to Cat C as well.
But as it stands the cream is still cat M and still over tariff to purchase.
So yes you need to be adding the manufacturer of the CREAM to the main body of the prescription  to get a better reimbursement .
Good afternoon Amanda,                                                                                            Â
Hope you are ok?
I’ve had a few questions recently about signing the backs of prescriptions when the patient collects. Is this something that should be done whether they are paying age or exempt age and what exactly on the back needs to be completed and what doesn’t need completing. Lots of contradicting views on this internally!
HI there,
I am very well thanks – hope all is good with you?
If the prescription is computer generated and the patient is under 16 or over 60 years old, then no signature or anything is required.
If the item is Personally administered or Contraception, no signature or anything is required.
That’s the legal rules however, in my dispensary I insisted that the reverse of all prescriptions had a signature so I knew who had collected it.
If the prescription is handwritten, then even if under 16/over 60 – there needs to be a tick in the box and a signature.
If the patient is exempt from charges, then the correct box needs to be ticked and a signature needs to be taken from the patient – or representative.
General rule – anyone between 16 and 60 – presume they pay until told otherwise.
