Frequently Asked Questions

Hi Amanda, I hope you are well?

Can I pick your brains please.

We are now opening from 8.00am -6.30pm including the dispensary.  Is it correct that we are allowed to open the dispensary if we do not have GP on site?  In the past if the only GP leaves the building, we have closed it until they return.

I know pharmacies close if they do not have a pharmacist on-site?

Thank you for any help you can give.

Hi there,

I am very well thanks – hope all is good with you?

The answer is No, you don’t need a GP on site to be able to open the dispensary – which is different to Pharmacy.

Pharmacy has to have a pharmacist on the premises to be able to open!

Good morning Amanda,

Quick query, are any drugs issued to treat a STI allowed as a ‘FS’?

I know aciclovir is, but yesterday I had a prescription for azithromycin and I wasn’t sure where to find out.

HI there,

There have been some changes to the ‘FS’ (Free Supply) prescriptions in December which I have added to this newsletter however if you search FS on Community Pharmacy England you will find all the information you need.

There is no specific list of what is classed as FS- it’s at the prescriber discretion!

Good afternoon Amanda,

Hope you’re ok?

Just a quick one, I’ve had one of our GPs query if a script needs an extra signature against an amendment (for the Generics over Tariff),  does it have to be by the GP who signed the original prescription?

HI

I am very well thanks – hope you’re ok?

The answer is no, the countersign can be done by any prescriber, not just the original Prescriber.
